The annual City Park Big Bass Rodeo & Fishtival is coming up on March 29th at New Orleans City Park. The rodeo is in its 67th year and organizers call it the oldest freshwater rodeo in the country. With over 700 anglers registered in the rodeo last, you can bet there will be a great turnout this year as well. They’ve added a new division this year, perfect for kayak fishermen, called Boats on the Bayou, which is limited to non-motorized vessels fishing in Bayou St. John, between Harrison Ave. and Robert E. Lee Blvd. Registration for the event is $15, you can find information regarding rules and registration here: http://www.neworleanscitypark.com/big-bass-fishing-rodeo-and-fishtival/boats-on-the-bayou-registration.

I plan to fish it and hope you do too, it should be a great time!

Happy Mardi Gras everyone! No work for us today here in Louisiana, but the weather has been awful so we’ve just been doing a bit of Spring cleaning. This weekend however was beautiful and for the first time in a long time we actually made it out to some of the New Orleans parades. Amanda and I did Endymion on Saturday night and on Sunday the whole family went to Thoth. We had a blast this weekend and forgot just how fun Mardi Gras is (we usually try to take advantage of the vacation day and get out of town).

Endymion rolling – as expected the crowd was thick. I don’t ever remember Endymion rolling during the day or finishing as early as they did.

The 610 Stompers are always crowd pleasers.

Update: The trailer for GEOBASS has disappeared from Youtube, but you can still find the episodes through the Motiv Fishing page

This looks to be a good follow up to GEOFISH and should be equally entertaining. Here’s the description from the Youtube page for the trailer:

“GEOFISH, in a continuing worldwide saga will cover the globe to search, find and explore the greatest waters never fished in #GEOBASS. Visit http://bit.ly/geobass to learn more.

The “Trout Bums”, Thad Robison, Brian Jill, Jay Johnson and Chris Owens, star in the GeoFish series as it documents the lifestyles, adventures, mishaps, and camaraderie of four expedition anglers on an around the world epic journey. This time they’ve got their sights set on one species in particular — BASS!”

I don’t think the author of that last line understands how many different types of “bass” there are. Still it should be a pretty good flick.
