2015 is over so here’s a look back at my (outdoor) year in pictures. Click on any pic to read more from that day.
The year started off solid, with my first ski trip with a big group of friends. It was a ton of fun and really set the bar high for a non-fishing trip. Then came a personal best brown from Memorial Day weekend, which was actually the same pb brown I caught last year – what are the odds? I think the high point though will be the Wyoming Cutt Slam trip in August. Five days of incredible dry fly fishing with a great friend is tough to beat. It was a fine year and like any other year it had its share of ups and downs, but I’m ready to see what 2016 brings.
I’ve been really enjoying Drew’s web series, Hooked on Wild Waters, this year and wanted to share an episode I was able to help with that was filmed down here in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. It went live on the Hooked on Wild Waters website this week. I was only able to fish with Drew on the first day they were filming and I can tell you they did a great job with the edit because conditions were tough that day. Big thanks to Casey Brunning for camera boat duty and helpful advice – couldn’t have done it without him. I can’t embed the video here, so be sure to go to the Hooked on Wild Waters website and check it out and the rest of the great webisodes in the series.
I had to work on the “Best Bank” earlier this Fall and found myself with a little time to kill not too far away from the Jean Lafitte NHP. I decided to check it out and get a bit of exercise walking some of the trails. Jean Lafitte seems like one of those places that gets forgotten about alongside all the other attractions New Orleans has to offer, I know that I’ve driven past it a few times without even thinking twice about stopping. I’m glad I finally gave it a go because I really enjoyed my walk in the swamp. The park boasts an incredible amount of boardwalk that winds it’s way into the Northern Barataria estuary – the swamp was beautiful and the critters were plentiful, but I couldn’t get over the fact that I walked a few miles on boardwalk, someone had to put all that together!
